Nobody Would Call for a Cease-Fire After Sept. 11, Israel Is Defending Itself

Reps. Mike Lawler (R-NY) mentioned Sunday on ABC’s “This Week” that calls for a pause within the Israel-Hamas battle weren’t acceptable as a result of “nobody would call on the United States to engage in a ceasefire after September 11, 2001.”
Partial transcript as follows:
KARL: And, Congressman Lawler, we’ve heard what appears like frustration coming from the Biden administration about getting — about Israel actions by way of defending civilians in — in Gaza, and, you already know, humanitarian pauses. How does the prime minister view this? Does he nonetheless really feel that he has the total and whole assist of the Biden administration and the U.S. authorities?
LAWLER: Yes. And, clearly, that’s the aim of our delegation journey right here, is to indicate our sturdy assist, in a bipartisan trend, for the state of Israel. Just, you already know, a week and a half in the past, we handed a decision in sturdy assist of Israel in condemning Hamas.
What is obvious is that Israel is engaged in efforts to supply humanitarian aid. They’ve been engaged in efforts to get civilians out of the northern a part of Gaza.
But for these calling for a ceasefire, they completely misunderstand the scenario right here. Hamas shouldn’t be somebody, some group that’s going to abide by a ceasefire. They are hell-bent on eradicating the state of Israel and eliminating the Jewish folks. You’re not coping with rational, cheap folks right here. And, you already know, Israel wants to have the ability to defend itself. Nobody would name on the United States to interact in a ceasefire after September eleventh, 2001. And I feel it’s irresponsible for us to name on Israel to do this after they’re making an attempt to defend themselves.
The backside line right here is, sure, we have to present humanitarian aid and we need to keep away from civilian casualties. But these 11,000 civilian quantity that retains getting repeated by the press is factually flawed. Within that quantity, hundreds of Hamas terrorists have been killed. And, clearly, Hamas is utilizing these civilians as human shields. And so, the oppressor right here, the folks which can be accountable for the deaths in Gaza is Hamas.
