Politicians Urge Taylor Swift to Postpone LA Concerts in Solidarity with Striking Hotel Workers

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California’s lieutenant governor and different elected officers on Tuesday urged Taylor Swift to postpone her Los Angeles concert events as a means to stand in solidarity with striking hotel workers.

Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis and dozens of state and native politicians signed an open letter telling Swift that her tour makes the area’s inns cash, with some properties “doubling and tripling what they charge because you are coming.”

Meanwhile, the letter mentioned, many housekeepers and different resort employees can’t afford to stay shut to their jobs and a few sleep in their automobiles and threat shedding their properties.

“Hotel workers are fighting for their lives. They are fighting for a living wage. They have gone on strike. Now, they are asking for your support,” they wrote. “Stand with hotel workers and postpone your concerts.”

Starting Thursday, Swift is scheduled to carry out six sold-out reveals at SoFi Stadium close to Los Angeles. Her representatives didn’t instantly reply to an e-mail looking for touch upon the letter.

Unite Here Local 11, which represents some 30,000 resort employees, is negotiating for higher wages, improved well being care advantages, greater pension contributions and fewer strenuous workloads. Contracts expired final month at greater than 60 inns, together with properties owned by main chains resembling Marriott and Hilton.

Kounalakis, a Democrat who mentioned she is going to run for governor in 2026, is the highest official in the state to make the plea. She attended Swift’s Eras tour in Santa Clara, California, in accordance to Politico.

Others who signed the letter embrace the mayors of a number of cities, Assembly Majority Leader Issac Bryan and state senators Dave Min and Maria Elena Durazo.
